Student Information

Welcome to North West Sutherland Schools, your gateway to a holistic educational experience for students aged 3-18. Our campus offers a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child can thrive. We believe in fostering a love for learning and providing a solid foundation for future success.

Pupil Parliment

Our Campus Pupil Parliament is where pupil voice takes centre stage and young people become active partners in shaping the life and direction of North West Sutherland Schools. It provides a meaningful platform for learners to share ideas, raise concerns, and influence decisions—ensuring improvements are not done to pupils, but with them.

Through the Parliament, pupils learn how to listen, lead, represent others and work collaboratively to make things better. Importantly, this is not “tokenistic” voice work: members identify real priorities, consult with their peers, and work alongside staff to deliver actions that make a visible difference across the campus. Because our schools sit at the heart of small rural communities, the impact often reaches beyond the school gates—supporting initiatives that strengthen community life, celebrate local identity, and improve opportunities for young people across the North West.

In short, our Pupil Parliament helps develop confident, responsible citizens who know their voice matters—and who are empowered to turn that voice into positive, lasting change.

All pupils have a route into the Pupil Parliament and into the decisions that shape campus life. Representatives are chosen from each stage so that every year group has a voice, and members regularly gather views from their classmates through class discussions, quick surveys and informal check-ins. Pupils can raise an issue at any time by speaking directly to their stage representative, sharing ideas in class/pupil voice time, or submitting suggestions through agreed channels in school. Representatives then bring these points to Parliament meetings, provide updates on progress, and feed back outcomes to pupils—ensuring everyone can be heard, and that concerns and ideas are followed through in a clear, respectful and meaningful way.

Student Portal

Our Pupil Portal gives young people a clear, up-to-date view of how they are getting on in school and helps them take real ownership of their learning. Through the portal, pupils can access their tracking information, reward points, and attendance data in one place—supporting them to set goals, spot patterns, celebrate progress and identify next steps. It is a live, working document, updated regularly so pupils always have the most current picture of their learning journey. Pupils can access the Pupil Portal through Google Classroom, and it becomes available once they are signed in to their school Google account..

Pupil Reward System

Our Pupil Reward System is designed to recognise positive choices, effort and contribution across the campus. Pupils collect points throughout the term, and these points have a clear value—the more points earned, the greater the range of rewards available. At the end of each term, pupils can exchange their points for rewards, encouraging motivation, celebrating achievement, and reinforcing a positive school culture where progress and commitment are noticed and valued.

Extra Curricular Activities

We offer a wide range of extra curricular activities across the campus which suits the interests of many of our students; historical societies, lego club, badminton, football, drama, trampolining, dance...

Our Active Schools Co-Ordinator, Rachel, is great at making sure there's always something to do! If you have ideas of what you would like to see speak to one of our pupil parliament members or our Active Schools Co-Ordinator who will be able to help!

As well as clubs we offer trips too - our football trips and rugby trips are always popular as are our more cultural trips such as to the theatre. Our pupils recently spent a week in Vancouver, Canada, exploring Kinlochbervie historical connections to the city!
